MINUTES www.monroenc.org The City Council of the City of Monroe, North Carolina, met in Special Session at First Baptist Church, 109 Morrow Avenue at Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina, at 5:30 p.m. on June 10, 2008 with Mayor Bobby G. Kilgore presiding. Present: Mayor Bobby G. Kilgore, Mayor Pro Tem P.E. Bazemore, Council Members John Ashcraft, Billy Jordan, Dottie Nash, Robert J. Smith, City Manager F. Craig Meadows, City Attorney Terry Sholar, and City Clerk Bridgette H. Robinson. Absent: Council Member Lynn Keziah. Visitors: Jan Ball, Joe Beeson, Doug Britt, Brian Borne, Maryann Brown, Ed Cottingham, Jason deBruyn, Margaret Desio, John Dickerson, Debra C. Duncan, Renn Farmer, Debra Farnum, Robert Farnum, Jim Fatland, Walter Gibson, Kyle Hayes, Arnold Helms, Cindy Herron, Wayne Herron, John Hewett, Eric Hill, Scott Hinkle, Fred Howell, Lois Johnson, Paul Johnson, James Allen Lee, Brenda Lemmonds, Ginny Mauney, Michelle McCoy, Tripp Melton, Mark Nettles, Chris Plate, Gail Privette, Tim Ratliff, Jon Richardson, Kevin Rigoli, Ben Rojah, Pam Sanders, Mary Ann Sartain, Dan Shive, Padam Singh, Nancy Stephen, Lisa Stiwinter, Percy Walter, Kim Webb, John Wiggins, Tamara Wilson, Jaime Wise, and others. Mayor Kilgore called the Special City Council Meeting of June 10, 2008 to order at 6:00 p.m. A quorum was present. Item No. 1. Introduction of Downtown Director. City Manager Meadows introduced and provided a brief history on the new Downtown Director Brian Borne. Mr. Borne greeted everyone and expressed his excitement to be a part of the revitalization of downtown Monroe. Item No. 2. Introduction of Downtown Master Plan. Assistant City Manager Wayne Herron provided a brief overview of the Downtown Master Plan including the vision, purpose, goals and key areas surrounding the Master Plan. Mr. Herron also expressed appreciation to Council, the Downtown Advisory Committee, and various members of City staff for their efforts in bringing this plan to fruition. Downtown Advisory Board Vice Chairman James Allen Lee introduced the members of the Downtown Advisory Board: Joe Beeson, Sheila Crunkleton (Chair), John Dickerson, Renn Farmer, Debra Farnum, W. Frank Helms, James Kerr, Brenda Lemmonds, Gail Privette, Pam Sanders, Nancy Stephen, Tamara Wilson, and Jaime Wise.
